The Last Call: Hawaii FB Coach’s derogatory comment costs him, Vick and the…Patriots? and some entertainment news!

As we head into the weekend, there’s a decent sports line-up including heavy golf coverage (Buick Open, Women’s British Open and U.S. Senior Open), a slate of MLB games (Yankees and White Sox; Phillies and Giants seem meaningful) and ABC/ESPN X-Games.   We’ll be enjoying a dry Saturday (hopefully) in the Big Apple by playing some hoops.  Unfortunately hitting the links is not on our plans.  The posting may be light this weekend (apologies in advance) but will leave you with tonight’s last call…

Head football coach of Hawaii, Greg McMackin, was suspended for 30 days without pay in connection to a derogatory comment he made in front of reports, players, coaches and boosters regarding Notre Dame’s “dance”.  In addition to the suspension, he “volunteered” to take an additional 7% pay cut from his $1.1 million salary.  We won’t post what he said, but you can read the transcript here.   Coach should of definitely known better.  (AP)

In Michael Vick news (sort of), New England Patriots coach, Bill Belichick was asked about Vick and responded with this:

“You know, I think we have, we would consider… I mean, we’re coaching the players that we have on the field right now, so that’s who’s here,” Belichick said. “So, anybody who isn’t here, is there potential that they could be here? You know, yeah, there probably is. But right now they’re not.”

Doesn’t tell us much in terms of him becoming a Patriot.  Though he would be an interesting fit and perhaps a match-up nightmare if used in a WildPatriot? formation w/ Tom Brady.  (Washington Post)

In some non-sports news…We were thinking about watching Judd Apatow’s new movie ‘Funny People’ starring Adam Sandler and Seth Rogen.  Here’s a good and bad review.  This a good time killer movie as it’s 140 minutes long…

…Seems as though the Eminem and Mariah Carey feud is headed for another level with Eminem’s release of ‘The Warning’.  It’s amusing that this is still going on, must be desperate to sell cds we think?…Speaking of cds, Pope Benedict XVI signed with Geffen Records to produce a record which will include chants and prayers.  No word if any tracks will feature Snoop Dogg.

And finally…”These pretzels are making me thirsty”, the cast of ‘Seinfeld’ is set to reunite on Larry David’s HBO show ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’.  Surprisely, it will include Michael Richards (aka Kramer), who has been in hiding since the incident.
