A look at the NFL oh-fers

We are heading into week 5 of the NFL season and there are 6 teams remaining that are still in the running to join the 2008 Detroit Lions and their 0-16 record.  Let’s take a look at them shall we…

We will continue to assess the oh-fer teams until none remain.  We’ll give you our thoughts and then rate them by color with Green = highly unlikely the team will go 0-16, Yellow = possibility the team will go 0-16 and Red = mark them down for 0-16.

Cleveland Browns (0-4) – Well what more can we say about this team.  They’ve already lost to every team in the AFC North.  They’ve already gone through the quarterback controversy, but maybe it’s now resolved.  But now they are dealing with the Braylon Edwards’ assault.  The team improved in the loss against the Bengals but without looking at the schedule this team could still lose every remaining game this season.  TYP Assessment…YELLOW = possibility for 0-16 record

Tennessee Titans (0-4) – Perhaps the most surprising out of the 6 oh-fer teams.  They got waxed against the Jags last week.  The rushing attack is top 10 with Chris Brown.  Fisher won’t turn to Vince Young, which we agree wouldn’t help the situation anyways.  Although they are likely to lose their next two games (Colts and Patriots), the rematch against the Jags should hopefully bring a better result.  Worst case scenario week 13 they play the Rams (guarantee win right?).  TYP Assessment…GREEN = unlikely for 0-16 record

Kansas City Chiefs (0-4) – Wouldn’t of predicted that the Raiders would have more wins than the Chiefs after week 4.  Also wouldn’t had said the Chiefs would average 145 yards of passing with Matt Cassell (though he was injured).  Is Larry Johnson really that bad?  His production is nowhere near his ’05 and ’06 numbers.  There’s a few (two) win-able games for them.  They get Oakland again and Cleveland also comes into town.  TYP Assessment…YELLOW = possibility for 0-16 record

Carolina Panthers (0-3) – Jake Delhomme still can’t get out of his funk.  He’s thrown 7 picks against 2 touchdowns.  This team has enough talent to turn the season around.  Williams and Stewart haven’t done much damage though it’s understandable considering teams are probably putting 9 in the box and challenging Jake the Snake to beat them.  They’ve already had their bye week, so it’s 13 games in a row for the team.  TYP Assessment…GREEN = unlikely for 0-16 record

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-4) – Another NFC South team, another team with quarterback troubles and another team with a first year coach (Cleveland, KC and St. Louis).  Leftwich benched in favor of Josh Johnson.  By far the hardest schedule of any of the oh-fer teams.  Derrick Ward has done absolutely nothing after signing a 4-year $17MM deal.  Easy money for Derrick.  TYP Assessment…YELLOW= possibility for 0-16 record

St. Louis Rams (0-4) – When Rush Limbaugh is thinking about buying you, you know you are in trouble.  Tack on the fact that they are averaging 6 points a game (yes 6!) and you have a recipe for disaster.  Stephen Jackson has had a decent year thus far (our fantasy player).  Bulger is hurt (again).  Back-up Kyle Boller hasn’t done much.  The schedule doesn’t bold well with the exception of Detroit and Tennessee (see Tennessee above).  Cleveland/KC/Tampa, you have company!  TYP Assessment…YELLOW = possibilty for 0-16 record

I think the team with the best possibility to go winless is the Bucs. That’s one of the worst football teams I’ve seen since….well…..last year’s Lions haha.

  2. I tend to agree with you there. Detroit even with win deserves to be on the list too.
